37 years ago I remember walking around the city of Chester, my home town.... in search of a diamond engagement ring, it was a long day, I am sure we visited every jewellers shop in Chester that day...and shop after shop presented to us rings which they felt would suit, not easy, as our budget was limited, as such we had to be focused on making sure we did not overspend...so we kept looking, until we found ourselves in a little shop, owned by a very nice husband and wife, who seemed very much interested in actually wanting to make sure we would have what we wanted, and at the price we could afford.

What I like and remember, was the way in which these two people listened to what we wanted and our hopes and dreams, they really seemed to be genuinely interested in us......not once did not try to blind us with science or with too much information as to the merits of a diamond, they did not try to give an opinion on this or that, the lady was so kind and so very understanding, saying to me that we would know which one, without their comments, the diamond of our dreams is special, it would stand out amongst all the others, its beauty is our interpretation, as for sure beauty is always in the eyes of the beholder.

Their opinion knowledge, recommendations and advice, could never take the place of what is in our heart, it would only ever take away the romance.

Our questions invited them to respond helpfully, and in no way did they answer in any way that could have influenced our choice, as they said earlier, the diamond of our dreams would reveal itself, only as a result of our interpretation of what we could afford, and one that smiled a smile that said "I am the one".

Diamond after diamond was presented, until one actually did smile in a way that said "I am the one ".

It was not a large diamond, but it did have the biggest smile, it dared us to hold it close and we did, so much so we didn’t want to let it go.... I will never forget that smile, because at the same time my girlfriend also had the biggest smile on her face, a smile that said it all, and one that I will always remember. And so our search for "that ring" came to a very happy end.

Sadly this little diamond was over budget, not by a great amount, but over budget nonetheless.

These lovely people recognised the look of despair and immediately came up with an idea to help us have the diamond ring we had obviously fallen in love with...we could pay a deposit, and come into their shop as when to pay off amounts that we could afford, and then when done we could have the ring.

We were obviously thrilled, We thanked them for there kindness though deep inside I felt a pang of sadness, that we could not have the ring there and then, we paid the deposit and off we went, happy, more than happy, but still I wished I had had the money to buy it there and then.

Their determination to serve us made us feel special indeed.

I knew there and then that I would work extra hard to find the money to buy this ring, sooner rather than later.

I was given the opportunity to work in the Isle of Man, which meant that I would have to live over there for a while, but the money was enough to tempt me, as it would enable me to not only repair my pride and joy, my hand painted yellow Ford Escort car, that was in need of TLC, and a new dashboard, gear knob etc...A wreck really, but the love of my life, it would also allow me to buy that diamond ring; this encouraged me to say yes...a week later I arrived in the Isle of Man.

I worked seven days a week, it was a wonderful summer, and long days ensured that I could easily work until late.

Twelve hour days followed, a month went by, I was desperate to go home for a break, the chance came to return home for a couple of days, so with money to spend, I knew exactly what I was going to do.....

I was met at the airport in Liverpool by my girlfriend, she had the most amazing look on her face, a smile that said everything was not only good but fantastic....and a smile that also reminded me of a little diamond I had seen a month earlier....almost immediately she held out her hand and there on her third finger of her left hand was the diamond ring! I asked how was this possible.....she was a little reluctant to say, so the journey home in her car was one of not many words.....until we arrived at the place where I last saw my car....all at once my head was filled with questions, but the look on her face, and the dazzling smile from the diamond ring, said it all, My car was now sitting in pride of place on her third finger of her left hand!! My car became an engagement ring! I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry... but the look on her face and the tear just about to fall........

The days followed were filled with so much, many a plan was discussed, the seeds of a life ahead was being sown, we worked hard, we both liked beautiful things, it came natural to us to return to the lovely husband and wife that had treated us so well for little treats, that helped us to celebrate the precious moments in our life, especially our wedding rings.....we had our jeweller one we knew would make all our precious moments extra special.

After the wedding our work was such that we could afford to indulge ourselves in the little tokens of our love, jewels, diamond mostly, but gemstones always...no matter what the occasion, birthdays anniversary good days bad days, there was always a day when the thought of something precious, in jewellery took us to our favourite jeweller.

Jewellery became a passion... the husband and wife who helped us to find our engagement ring, inspired us to think, wouldn’t it be fantastic if one day, if we too had a lovely room in which others could come and find so much love....a room of dreams come true, a room that held so many ways in which people could express the precious moments in their lives. We loved the idea that these little things meant so much and represented almost every important event in every ones life at some time.

This then became our dream.....our goal, until one day it became a reality, and Peers the Jeweller opened its doors..... A reality through inspiration and determination to succeed.....

Our room full of beautiful things grew, in stature, every day inspired and motivated by the people who came to us and entrusted to us their dreams..... We felt honoured and extremely fortunate to play such a part in the lives of so many...

One by one our children entered the family dream, it was all fitting into place, our children...Nathan....Katie and Natalie, joined with us to take the dream forward, we became guardians of a dream that one day would move on to our grandchildren and their children.......
